Read this if You're Struggling Building Your Personal Brand

Do you think you need thousands of followers to start building your personal brand?

You don't.

These moments could be your biggest advantage.

Here's something no one tells you:

"If you know how to show up, you can turn your most invisible moments to your most magnetic moments."

This week, let's break down how to handle personal branding while laid off.

Build Your Brand as a Creator, Not a Job Title

After my layoff, I stopped thinking of myself as a title.

I was a content creator passionate about storytelling.

Although I wasn't employed, I maintained my skills and ensured they remained visible.

No job can define your value.

Your knowledge is the heartbeat of your brand.

Share what you build, solve, and learn with your audience.

Tell Your Story Live in Real Time

Most people only share the results.

Hiring managers fall in love with the process it took to get there.

I shared posts about my experiences and what I went through to get to where I am right now.

Nothing was perfect, and I never pretended it was.

As a result, people supported me.

Once you find a schedule that works for you, please share what you learn and post it.

No win is too small to celebrate.

Authenticity wins every single time.

Don't Wait for Opportunities, Create Your Own

At the outset of my layoff, I promised myself that I would do at least two things each day to focus on the future.

It could be:

  • Updating a resume.
  • Writing an article.
  • Networking with peers.

Sharing your work online will show recruiters that you are capable of doing a great job for them.

Use your free time to build what you want to be hired for.

No permission is needed to showcase your skills online.

Turn Self-Doubt on Its Head and Do Your Thing

Like many others, I had a thunderous voice in my head during my layoff.

Its name is DOUBT.

Doubt always whispered strange things in my head, like:

  • "You're not good enough."
  • "No one will take you seriously."
  • "You have nothing good to say."

Instead of listening to that voice, I used it as motivation.

I began writing about my journey and the experiences that led me to this point.

Those posts got the most impressions and comments.

In today's chaotic online works, honesty shines brighter than anything else.

If you're struggling today, ask yourself: What would my mentor say?

Stop Waiting and Start Building

You don't need to be an expert at personal branding to get started.

While unemployed, I did many things for my brand, including:

  • Build a website for myself.
  • Took new pictures for my LinkedIn profile.
  • Did projects for myself.

When you showcase what you learn, you show hiring managers that you can be a great employee.

You can also demonstrate to companies why they should hire you, rather than waiting for them to recognize your skillset.

Don't wait for opportunities. Create them.

If You're Struggling to Build Your Brand While Laid Off, Hear Me

You are enough.

You matter.

You were created to fill a unique role.

Someone out there needs you.

So, show up.

What's stopping you?

Stay Branded and Keep Building.

P.S.

I'm building a course that teaches the basics of personal branding.

This course is ideal for individuals seeking to establish their online presence.
